Job Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities will be in the areas of regional environmental monitoring and area protection.

In environmental monitoring, the focus is on tracking the condition of the county's terrestrial environments and bird life through long-term inventories using established methods. Responsibilities include coordinating the County Administrative Board's environmental monitoring, which is also conducted by other units. The purpose of the monitoring is to collect data that can be used to follow up on environmental goals and thus detect various types of changes. The work is largely conducted in collaboration with other county administrative boards and other actors operating both within the county and at the national level.

The area protection work generally involves working with the establishment and revision of various types of area protection, such as nature reserves, conservation agreements, and Natura 2000 areas. The work is varied and the role includes analyzing, evaluating, and compiling background material, as well as drafting and writing reports, plans, and decisions. Dialogue and collaboration with property owners, authorities, and other stakeholders are also important parts of the job. As an area protector, you will work to a lesser extent on field tasks, which may involve conducting nature value assessments or inventories and mapping in connection with the development of management plans.

The job responsibilities may be adjusted based on your skills and previous experiences, and they may also change over time.

About the Workplace

You will work in the Nature Conservation and Management Unit at the Department of Nature and Environment. The unit's approximately 15 employees are responsible for the establishment and management of nature reserves, action programs for threatened terrestrial species (ÅGP), terrestrial environmental monitoring, outdoor recreation, green infrastructure, and more. The regional environmental monitoring area engages one or two employees, depending on how the tasks are distributed. The area protection group is larger and consists of 3-4 employees.

The unit has an experienced, cheerful, and committed team that works in collaboration with others to preserve the most important and valuable natural environments in the county. Together, we have extensive experience and broad expertise, and as an employee, there are good opportunities to learn from each other and thus develop both within your own and others' areas of expertise.

Qualifications

We are looking for a person with an interest in and good knowledge of nature. It is important to have:

• a completed university degree in biology or environmental science, or other education/experience that the County Administrative Board deems equivalent
• good knowledge in nature conservation or ecology and familiarity with our most common natural types
• experience working with GIS
• good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing (in Swedish)
• a valid driver's license (B)

Experience in the following areas is advantageous:

• regional environmental monitoring or area protection
• time series data, databases, and inventory methods
• processing and maintaining geodata, preferably in ArcGIS Pro. Experience working with mobile GIS such as Field Maps and Survey123 in combination with ArcGIS Portal is also advantageous
• working in a government agency
